with most modern cars having 6, 8, 9 and 11 speed transmissions it makes me ponder about the Stringbean's 4 speed autostick trans (trannies are something you find in the shady corners of LA Blvd).
Sure I don't have a 5th or 6th to sit in on the highway to get awesome mpg but there is one benefit.. traveling 65mph in 4th puts me at 2500rpms - that's right at the beginning of my power band. need to pass? No need to shift, just lay into it and you'll be climbing through the power band. Actually don't down shift cause you'll jump to 5k and it's damn scary.
The same goes for non highway driving. 3rd gear at 45 is mid power band, a wonderful exhaust note and just ready to launch.
Also I had some awesome sushi tonight.
